LESSON 9a:  Introduction to Java

Mass Curriculum Standards:

Standard 1: Demonstrate proficiency in the use of computers and applications as well as an understanding of concepts underlying hardware, software, and connectivity.

Standard 2: Demonstrate responsible use of technology and an understanding of ethics and safety issues in using electronic media.

Math Standards

Number Sense/Discrete Mathematics: programs deal with differing number types and bases as well as their finite representation in RAM.

Objectives:

• Students will learn some of the differences between C++ and Java
• How to run from the command prompt your first HelloWorldApp

Learning Experience

• A lecture – on the differences between C++ and Java
• Demonstration on how to create and run a simple HelloWorldApp
• Students will start the Java tutorials beginning at getting started.

Students will be Assessed on

• A printout of a working copy of the HelloWorldApp, code and output.
